ADD/ADHD in Youth Programs
Hyperactive, impulsive, and distracted youngsters pose unique challenges for staff and campers alike. This detailed handout provides a clear set of effective strategies to use with children and teeens who have symptoms of ADD/ADHD. Case studies prompt realistic discussion.
Symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity are normal for children. When these symptoms are more frequent or severe than is typical for a child at a certain developmental level, it is possible that the child has a neurodevelopmental disorder called ADHD. Diagnosis or not, understanding the symptoms and how to manage them in a classroom, camp, afterschool program or parks & recreation program can be enormously helpful.
