Self-harm behavior is difficult to understand and upsetting for others to witness. Unfortunately, it is one of the most misunderstood ways of coping that adolescents and young adults engage in. This handout explains how best to recognize and respond to the pain behind cutting and other non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors.
